September 3, 2020 marked the announcement of the first woman president of the Canada Space Agency since the organization was created in 1989.

Lisa Campbell served as assistant deputy minister at Veterans Affairs Public Services and before that was assistant deputy minister, Defence and Marine Procurement within Public Services and Procurement Canada.

Her appointment comes at a time when the space agency is participating in the Lunar Gateway Project, a major international project led by the United Sates to build a space station to orbit the moon. Canada’s signal contribution will be the Canadarm3, an autonomous robotic system based on artificial intelligence.
